Memorial Day Weekend

The month of May provides the opportunity for the Mason community to express gratitude to all of the servicemen, women and their families for their sacrifices to protect our Nation. The City, along with the American Legion Post 194 and the VFW Post 9622 have created a number of opportunities for residents and businesses to recognize and honor our veterans and active military members in May and throughout the year.

The City of Mason and American Legion Post 194 are excited for the return of the annual Memorial Day Parade and Ceremony. The parade takes place on Monday, May 30 beginning at 10:00 a.m. The parade begins in Downtown Mason traveling along State Route 42 and then turns and heads north on Mason Montgomery Road concluding at the Mason Municipal Center parking lot. At the conclusion of the parade, the community is encouraged to attend a special Memorial Day Ceremony beginning at 11:00 a.m. in the atrium located inside of the Mason Municipal Center.

The Mason Veterans Memorial, located in front of the Mason Municipal Center at 6000 Mason Montgomery Road, was dedicated on Saturday, November 8, 2003. At the head of the Memorial, a flag proudly waves above a wall depicting the six branches of the service: Air Force, Army, Coast Guard, Marines, Navy and the most recent addition of the Space Force. At the base of the wall and around the flag are memorial bricks for veterans. The main feature of the memorial is a set of 10 pillars representing the 10 major conflicts in American history. The height of each pillar is proportional to the number of casualties in the war. At the end of the row is a low stone representing the hope for peace and the end to casualties in war. An eternal flame at the lower end of the Memorial will burn until all prisoners of war and those missing in action are returned to American soil. It stands in front of a wall of tears that represents the sorrows of all those affected by war.

Efforts to raise funds to support the Memorial continue through the sale of engraved brick pavers.  Purchase of bricks is not limited to veterans. If you are interested in showing your support by purchasing a brick, please follow the link below to apply:
